Katoomba Courthouse NSW: Preserving its Past with a Roof Replacement

Katoomba Courthouse NSW: Preserving its Past with a Roof Replacement

The Katoomba Courthouse, located in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, has recently undergone a significant renovation with its roof replacement. The courthouse is an important historical and architectural landmark in the region, and the upgrade is expected to improve its functionality and extend its lifespan.

The Katoomba Courthouse was built in 1897 and has since been a significant part of the Blue Mountains community, serving as a courthouse for over a century.

Modernising the courthouse while preserving its past

Government Architect Walter Liberty Vernon designed Katoomba Courthouse. The foundation stone was laid in 1895 by the Lieutenant Governor, Sir Frederick Darley; construction was completed in 1897.

Premier Slate supplied Welsh Penrhyn slate to Slate Roofing Australia to restore the roof building. The replacement of the roof was not only necessary for the structural integrity of the building but also for its aesthetic appeal. Combined with its unique natural beauty, Welsh slate is sustainable, with a life expectancy of well over 100 years. In addition, it can withstand the most extreme environmental and weather conditions.

The new Welsh Penrhyn slate roof complements the courthouse’s historical architecture, giving it a unique and fresh appearance. The project has ensured that this historical and architectural landmark can continue serving the Blue Mountains community for many years.
